Shire Yoga’s New Class

Shire Yoga new classChristine Harpley (Simmons) is an internationally certified Iyengar Yoga teacher and has been studying yoga since 1999. She has been teaching Iyengar Yoga for 13 years and enjoys sharing yoga with people of all ages and abilities. Christine’s classes help foster in her students a sense of discovery and confidence as they develop greater strength, flexibility, and awareness in their practice and their lives.

Christine brings to the practice an in-depth knowledge of musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology. This is important because it helps her to communicate the alignment principles that are key to understanding how to gain support to hold the postures and eventually remove the struggle that less flexible bodies can experience.

Christine’s unique teaching style is compassionate yet motivating because she encourages each individual to work to their potential.

I’ll let Christine explain in more detail…

Hi my name is Christine Harpley, I am a Mother of two and my passion is Yoga. I began practising Yoga back in 2000 when I returned from residing in the United States. While living in Seattle I studied to become a Licensed Massage Practitioner and found myself really interested in musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology.

I entered into the practise of Yoga because I was unwell. My health was failing and I knew it was because I was suffering from acute stress. Practising Yoga became my lifeline and I took to it with a vengeance.

Before long I was attending 4 classes each week and practising at home on the days when I was not in a class. Over a period of 6 months I had healed my illnesses and began the journey toward perfect health…on all levels of being.

Now 13 years later I am still practising and teaching this incredible art, science and philosophy and I feel very honoured to assist others toward their own health and wellbeing.

I started teaching at an Iyengar Yoga school in the Shire in 2003 under Jan Baxter, the school was Southside Yoga. In 2005 I opened my own school, Shire Yoga, which I closed in 2011 due to my Son having a serious illness and at which time we moved from Cronulla to the City for his treatment. After we moved to the city, I started teaching at Central Yoga School in Surry Hills, under Senior Iyengar teacher James Hassemer. I have been teaching classes and running workshops there for the past 5 years and continue to enjoy working with the many and varied students of the school.

I’ve also been teaching quite a bit of corporate Yoga over the last few years around Sydney. I also have worked with many private students who find Yoga to be very beneficial for injury rehabilitation and nervous system disorders such as anxiety, insomnia and fatigue. I have a very popular class on Monday nights at Shire Martial Arts which I now have a waitlist to attend. Quite a few students have been asking if I could provide a new Shire Yoga class during the daytime.

So finally, I’ve decided to do so.

Class hours:

  • Monday evening class – 6.30-8pm This class is currently full. However, there is a waitlist available for this class.
  • Wednesday mornings – 9.30-10.45am. This is my new class. Anyone associated with Shire Martial Arts is welcome to join.
  • Private classes: If you have a niggling injury, a chronic illness or if you’d just like to work with me one on one, please call me and we can discuss your options.

So, if you are interested to find out more about my Wednesday morning Iyengar Yoga class, my private lessons or if you would like to book your place, please call me on 0438 332 312. To find out where Shire Yoga is located please use this link.

I look forward to meeting you on the mat!

Namaste
